Spring Seeding
Starting the first seeds of the season is the most hopeful act. I spread my wishes for the season with each seed and all of my dreams for what the harvest will hold. Every year I add something new and take some things away - learning, adapting and adjusting. I’m endlessly critical of how I managed things in the past and spring let’s me inventory that seemingly negative list and adapt it to positive changes. I’m so grateful for a fresh start and for the possibilities. Once the seeds are in though the sprint begins, the endless list of what to do next and how not to get behind.
This year we are adding new flowers and herbs to our fields for our pick your own share and I’m lucky to have a friend, Emily, helping - she is an amazing grower and has a way with flowers that I love! Luckily Emily worked with me over a decade ago for a few years at Mill City Grows in Lowell and she knows me and how intense I can get about quality. If you’ve been to one of our wreath workshops you have met Emily - she is the Bow Queen! I’m excited to see what new ideas she brings to the farm this season.
At this moment in the spring all I can do is imagine what is to come and keep planting all the seeds to make sure the season is abundant. It is a welcome balm for the month of March as we are pulled back in forth into so many seasons and at times it can feel bleak and like winter will never end. Watching the seeds emerge is hopeful and full of wonder.
